Welcome to the Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority (TPHPA), the official regulatory body responsible for plant health management and pesticide control to safeguard agricultural productivity, human health, and the environment while promoting local and international trade of agricultural products.

Established under Act No. 4 of 2020, TPHPA serves as the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of Tanzania, ensuring the country meets its obligations under the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and complies with the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement of the WTO.  As an NPPO, TPHPA plays a critical role in preventing the introduction and spread of plant pests; facilitating safe trade, and protecting biodiversity.

The Authority was formed by the merging of the Plant Health Services (PHS) under the Ministry of Agriculture and the Tropical Pesticides Research Institute (TPRI). This integration enhances coordination, optimizes resource utilization, and eliminates duplication of roles and eventually ensuring greater efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

As a key institution in plant health and pesticide regulation, TPHPA collaborates with stakeholders and interested parties (farmers, agricultural processors, pesticide distributors, private sector organizations, etc) to promote safe, sustainable, and sustainable agricultural production systems. Through regulatory oversight, scientific research, and expert guidance, the Authority is committed to enhancing agricultural productivity, strengthening

food security, and boosting the competitiveness of Tanzania’s agricultural products in global markets.

We invite all stakeholders and interested parties to engage with us in building a safer, more productive, and sustainable agricultural sector for national development.

Welcome to TPHPA – Tanzania’s National Plant Protection Organization, Plant Health for Food Safety!
